BBC to adapt 'His Dark Materials' trilogy for TV

Philip Pullman's dark fantasy His Dark Materials is getting another shot at screen success, with the BBC announcing a new adaptation of the books. The first season will run eight episodes, and adapt the first novel in the series, Northern Lights.

The series, which will air on BBC One, is being developed by production company Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema, and will shoot in Wales. If the name "Bad Wolf" rings a bell, you've clearly been paying attention to the BBC's other genre television hit, Doctor Who. The term was a mnemonic throughout the first season of the returned show, and is now used by former Who-verse producers Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner.
